We’re getting very close to having FOTA where it needs to be for a broader release, and I could use some real world testing from the people already using the site.
Use the site normally, click around, try things and let me know whenever something looks strange, feels confusing or simply doesn’t work the way you expected. Screenshots/photos are great for conveying something goofy a lot of the time.
Here are some things I’d like everyone to try:
1. Start a new forum discussion
2. Reply to somebody else’s discussion
3. Edit one of your own posts or replies
4. Try the forum from both a computer and your phone if you can.
5. Mention another member using @username.
6. The person you mention should check whether they receive the appropriate notification.
7. Try reactions on both discussions and replies.
8. Check Forum Home, Popular and My Discussions & Posts after we have some activity built up
9. Make sure topics, replies, counts and links appear to make sense.
10. Try attaching an image to a forum discussion. Make sure it uploads properly and that the resulting post still looks good on both desktop and mobile.
11. Try the member features from the forum. Open another member’s profile, follow somebody and send a private message. Make sure everything leads to the correct person.
Somebody please create one clearly labeled TEST forum post or reply and report it. I’ll use that to test the moderation side. Don’t report normal posts unless there is actually a problem.
Pay attention to permissions. Normal members should not see administrator or manager controls. @KD9VAG should have access to the Club Manager dashboard for the CARS profile, while the rest of you should not see Club Manager unless you are assigned that role.
Outside the forum, please spend a few minutes clicking around Find a Fair, the Map, Clubs, Awards and News. Open some fair listings, try the Directions links and look at the site on mobile. Let me know about broken links, awkward layouts, images that don’t fit correctly or anything that just feels difficult to use.
Please interact with each other while testing rather than making isolated test posts. Reply to each other, mention each other, react to things and send a couple of messages. That gives me much better information about how FOTA behaves with actual activity.
If you find something, you don’t have to decide whether it’s technically a “bug.” Just tell me what you were trying to do, what happened and include a screenshot if possible.
Thanks for helping me get the rough edges knocked off before we start putting more people on the platform. It means a lot.
Two updates that are ready that will be pushed to production soon are a New's Contributor Dashboard and the certificate generator.
Fixes staged are:
1.Leaflett Map's zoom controls hover above the mobile dropdown menu and will get pushed back a layer.
2. Map directions path is being swapped from OpenStreetMaps to Google Maps.
3. Fair/Club cards are restyled for proper content bounding
Once these things are done, there is only minor UI/UX massaging left and I believe the platform will be ready for v1.0 status
Also, any nice to haves/improvements/etc you guys can think of, I'm all ears.
