Fair on the Air welcomes Jackson County Amateur Radio Service (JCARS) and Mountain Heritage Festival to the platform. With a club rooted in western North Carolina and an event celebrating the region’s traditions, these additions bring another local community into the growing FOTA network.
JCARS supports amateur radio in Jackson County and welcomes both experienced operators and people who are just getting started. Through club activities, technical learning and local radio resources, its members help make amateur radio accessible to their neighbors.
That spirit fits naturally with Fair on the Air: bringing amateur radio to the places where communities gather, giving visitors a chance to discover the hobby and helping operators connect through local events.
Mountain Heritage Festival is now listed on FOTA as US-NC-099. Western Carolina University’s 2026 celebration is presented as Mountain Heritage Days in Cullowhee, North Carolina. Its music, dance, crafts and cultural activities celebrate southern Appalachian heritage, continuing a tradition that spans more than 50 years.
JCARS has also announced a booth at the September 26, 2026 event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you are attending, stop by to meet the club and learn more about amateur radio. Those are the club’s announced booth hours; FOTA operating details should be checked separately as they become available.
Visit the JCARS club profile and the Mountain Heritage Festival listing to explore these new additions. For future activity, check FOTA’s activations and spots pages.
Welcome to FOTA, JCARS and Mountain Heritage Festival. We look forward to seeing more of Jackson County’s amateur radio community on the platform and on the air.
